Post Grant – The Probate Letters

Receipt From Beneficiary

Template of an acceptance of receipt letter which a beneficiary will sign upon receiving their inheritance.

Shares-Post Grant

Template of a letter that would be sent along with the grant of probate to companies holding shares under the deceased’s name asking for the it to be noted and returned.

Shares-Stock Transfer

Template of a letter that would be sent along with the relevant stock transfer forms to companies holding shares under the deceased’s name requesting the transfer of stocks into the name of the beneficiary.

Life Insurance-Post Grant

Template of a letter that would be sent to an insurance company holding a policy under the deceased’s name requesting for a cheque for payment of the policy. This should be sent along with a copy of the grant of probate, the relevant claim form and the original death certificate.

NS&I-Post Grant

Template of a letter that would be sent to National Savings and Investments requesting the closure of the accounts owned in the deceased’s name and a warrant for the closing balance. This should be sent along with a copy of the grant of probate, the 904 form and any other documents they have specifically requested.

Utilities-Post Sale of House

Template of a letter that would be sent to utility companies providing services to the deceased’s property informing them of a change of ownership and request for the final bill.

Bank-Post Grant

Template of a letter that would be sent to Institutions holding bank accounts under the deceased’s name. This should be sent along with the grant of probate and the relevant withdrawal form. The letter also requests that a cheque for the closing balance, closing statements and tax deduction certificates be sent to the executor.

Creditor Settlement

Template of a letter that would be sent to a creditor of the estate that would be sent along with a check for the outstanding balance and a statement confirming that the date has been settled.

Estate and Distribution Accounts

An example document of the estates final accounts. This includes a list of the estates assets and final values, a list of liabilities paid from the estate, a list of administration expenses paid from the estate and the final amounts that was distributed to the beneficiaries.

Investment-Post Grant

A template letter that would be sent to a company holding investments in the deceased’s name requesting a cheque for the closing balance. This should be sent along with a copy of the grant of probate and the relevant account closure form.

Land Registry Letter

A template letter that would be sent to the HM land registry requesting the change in registry of the property. This should be sent along with the relevant HMLR forms, a copy of the grant of representation and a cheque for the fee required by the HMLR.

Letter To Beneficiaries Enclosing Cheque

A template letter that would be sent to the beneficiaries confirming the completion of the estate administration and accompanied by a cheque for the amount they are entitled to out of the estates proceed. This should be sent along with a copy of the Will, a copy of the final estate accounts and a letter of receipt for the beneficiary to sign and return confirming the receipt of their inheritance.
